Configuring Dolphin

Before you start playing games with Dolphin, you may want to adjust some settings to optimize the performance and compatibility of the emulator. Dolphin has many options and features that you can customize according to your preferences and needs. Here are some of the most important settings that you should check:

General

  • Go to Config > General and make sure that Enable Dual Core and Enable Idle Skipping are checked. These options will speed up the emulation by using multiple CPU cores and skipping idle cycles.

  • Under Backend Options, you can choose the graphics backend that works best for your device. The options are OpenGL, Vulkan, Direct3D 11, and Direct3D 12. OpenGL is the most compatible one, but it may not be the fastest one. Vulkan is a newer and faster backend, but it may not work on some devices. Direct3D 11 and 12 are only available for Windows users, and they may offer better performance than OpenGL.

  • Under Interface Options, you can choose the language and theme of Dolphin's user interface. You can also enable or disable tooltips, confirmations, notifications, and updates.

Graphics

  • Go to Graphics > Enhancements and adjust the settings that affect the quality and resolution of the graphics. You can increase or decrease the Internal Resolution, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Texture Scaling, and Post-Processing Effects. Higher settings will improve the visuals, but they will also require more resources and may cause slowdowns or glitches.

  • Under Hacks, you can enable or disable some options that can improve the performance or compatibility of some games. For example, you can enable Skip EFB Access from CPU, Ignore Format Changes, Store EFB Copies to Texture Only, Texture Cache Accuracy, Fast Depth Calculation, and Disable Bounding Box. These options will reduce the accuracy of some effects, but they will also speed up the emulation.

  • Under Advanced, you can enable or disable some experimental features that may have positive or negative effects on some games. For example, you can enable Load Custom Textures, Prefetch Custom Textures, Load Custom Material Maps, Arbitrary Mipmap Detection, Force 24-bit Color, Force Texture Filtering, Disable Fog, Widescreen Hack, Force 16:9 Aspect Ratio, Crop Mode, Stereoscopy Mode, Vertex Rounding Mode, and Backend Multithreading. These features may enhance or break some games depending on how they use them.

Audio

  • Go to Audio > DSP and choose the audio backend that works best for your device. The options are Cubeb (default), OpenAL (Windows only), ALSA (Linux only), PulseAudio (Linux only), OSS (Linux only), XAudio2 (Windows only), No audio output (mute). Cubeb is a cross-platform backend that offers low latency and high quality sound. OpenAL is another cross-platform backend that offers more features and customization. ALSA, PulseAudio, OSS are Linux-specific backends that may work better than Cubeb on some systems. XAudio2 is a Windows-specific backend that may offer better performance than Cubeb on some systems.

  • Under Volume Control , you can adjust the volume level of the emulator. You can also enable or disable Audio Stretching, which can reduce audio crackling and stuttering at the cost of some latency and quality.

  • Under Output Configuration, you can choose the output device and sample rate for the audio. You can also enable or disable Dolby Pro Logic II Decoder, which can provide surround sound for some games.

Controllers

Go to Controllers > GameCube Controllers and choose the type of controller for each port. The options are None, Standard Controller, Sideways Wii Remote, Tilt Wii Remote, Classic Controller, Nunchuk, Guitar, Drums, Turntable. You can also choose Emulated or Real for each port. Emulated means that you can use any PC controller or keyboard to emulate a GameC
