The Pixel 5: A Durable and Affordable 5G Phone with Amazing Cameras
The Pixel 5 includes dual rear-facing cameras located within a raised square module. While the wide camera is unchanged, it includes an ultrawide lens replacing the Pixel 4's telephoto lens. The wide 28 mm 77 f/1.7 lens has the Sony Exmor IMX363 12.2-megapixel sensor, while the ultrawide 107 f/2.2 lens has a 16-megapixel sensor; both sensors are shared with the Pixel 4a (5G).[12] The front-facing camera uses an 8-megapixel sensor. Along with the Pixel 4a (5G), it is the first Pixel phone capable of recording 4K video at 60 fps, as previous Pixel phones were limited to 30 fps.[4] Although the lacks of Pixel Neural Core and Pixel Visual Core, it has been reworked and using software to support Live HDR+ and Dual Exposure features present on the Pixel 4. Additional software improvements include a new Portrait Light mode, Portrait Mode for Night Sight, a Cinematic Pan setting and HDR+ with exposure bracketing.
The Pixel 5 features a dual-lens camera system that's equal parts familiar and new for Google's handsets. The primary 12.2-megapixel lens is a mainstay of the Pixel brand; it's been around since the Pixel 2 days, and Google mostly relies on software enhancements to continually improve its output.

The front of the phone is dominated by a 6-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Resolution comes in at 2,340 by 1,080 pixels, for a respectably sharp 432 pixels per inch. Viewing angles are solid, and colors are vibrant and immersive. And unlike the Pixel 4a, we found the display to be bright enough to use in direct sunlight. That said, the Galaxy S20 FE offers a larger 6.5-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate for even smoother scrolling.
The Pixel 5's main camera uses the same exact 12.2-megapixel sensor as the one in the Pixel 4, except it's "less prone to bad lens flares," according to Google, and there are some improvements to its ability to capture images with a high dynamic range. Google says this sensor still gave it the best results over newer ones, as it has had the most training with the company's imaging algorithms. And instead of a secondary zoom lens, you now get a 16-megapixel ultrawide, a lens setup that matches the similarly priced iPhone 12.
The phone sports two wide-angle rear cameras. Equipped with a resolution of 12.2-megapixels, the main rear camera offers a 77-degree field of view, while the second rear camera uses 16 megapixels with an ultra-wide-angle lens that provides a 107-degree field of view. The 8-megapixel front camera uses a punch-hole cutout tucked away in the left corner.
With the Pixel 5, Google has switched to two rear wide-angle cameras vs. the wide-angle and telephoto cameras on the back of Pixel 4. The wide-angle one on the Pixel 4 has a resolution of 2.2-megapixels, while the telephoto offers 16 megapixels. That contrasts with the 12.2-megapixel and 16-megapixel wide-angle lenses on the back of the Pixel 5. Like the Pixel 4, the Pixel 5 uses a hole-punch front camera positioned on the left side of the screen.
Other phones have more megapixels, or more sensors, or fancier optics. Google's argument has long been that anything hardware can do, software can emulate, and often surpass. For a while I wondered if the absence of the Neural Core would leave the Pixel 5 lacking on that front, but my fears proved unfounded.
I have a pixel and it's often hard to find a reliable, fun and affordable case. The loopy covers all 3. I don't I'll eve have a phone without one. Neither me or my 6yo have dropped this phone since purchasing a loopy. This is a must have phone accessory.
All three use an OLED panel too, which has light-up pixels for perfect contrast. These OLEDs offer great colour too, and they are similarly bright. A Galaxy S21 is brighter in direct sunlight, but all three get by just fine on sunny days.
Google Pixel 5 mobile was launched on 30th September 2020. The phone comes with a 6.00-inch touchscreen display offering a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels at a pixel density of 432 pixels per inch (ppi) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display sports Gorilla Glass for protection. Google Pixel 5 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. It comes with 8GB of RAM. The Google Pixel 5 runs Android 11 and is powered by a 4080mAh non-removable battery. The Google Pixel 5 supports wireless charging, as well as proprietary fast charging.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Google Pixel 5 on the rear packs a 12.2-megapixel (f/1.7, 1.4-micron) primary camera, and a 16-megapixel (f/2.2, 1.0-micron) camera. The rear camera setup has phase detection autofocus. It sports an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies with an f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.12-micron.
Trying to pair a sense with a Google pixel 5. It was paired with my previous device and would not sync with my 5. I tried factory reset and removing from the fitbit app and my phone cannot find it when trying to set the sense up now.
Interestingly enough I rebooted the watch, my pixel auto discovered it and was able to find and set it up. Had some firmware upgrade challenges if I let the phone sleep but instead I kept the phone awake the second time and it completed. All set and working now thanks for your help!
